Article: 6 (+2) reasons to NOT Send Your Daughter to College

Argument: Women should not go to college for various reasons.

Reasons:

1. They will attract the wrong types of Men.
2. Will be in near occasion of sinning (sex).
3. Will not learn to be a wife and mother.
4. Degree will be hard to pay for.
5. You don't have to prove anything to the world.
6. Causes parents to sin (if using an investment at childs birth)
7. She will regret it.
8. Could interfere with religious vocation.

Counterargument: Women should be allowed to go to college.

Counters:

1. Women need to know there Man long enough to know if they want to stay with him. And sometimes it's a choice who gets to stay home. I do share same concern though.
2. Your Daughter is not the child she was. She's a grown adult. Let her decide her life and help her if she needs it. 
3. Colleges offer Early Childhood Development Classes and Developmental Psychology classes to understand children. But I share the same concern for a house making class.
4. People can always apply for a grant or a scholarship. There are other ways to pay for college.
5. This can be applied to everybody, not just women. And although it's not needed for every job, it helps employers focus on hiring you.
6. Parents do not always pay for kids tuition. They can help them set up a loan or a grant. Even with child investment, you're taking a huge gamble that the child will want to go to college. He/She may want to join the military.
7. Dual Career families are not always a choice. If anybody gets a job with their degree, it will not feel regrettable at all. 
8. As bad as it sounds, the debt needs to be payed for first. If the woman wants to be in a vocation that badly, she will have to work to get rid of her debt.

Main Idea: Pollution in Tacoma is apparent and is also affecting everyone in Tacoma.

Main Idea: Effects of living with fine air pollution in Beijing.

Main Idea: Facts about the air pollution in Tacoma, Washington.

Evidence: “Fine particles are easily inhaled deep into our lungs and travel into the lungs and circulatory system… Exposure to fine particle pollution is linked to decreased heart and lung function, respiratory disease, asthma attacks, heart attacks, strokes, and premature death.”

Reason: This from the Department of Health. They set standards for how much exhaust and particles can be released in the air. And since this is coming from a government website describing Tacomas air pollution, it must be a problem.

An Outline for My Written Researched Proposal (FINAL EDIT)

Intro -       

Hook: Clean air is something that is essential to peoples health and life. Air that cities, like Tacoma, do not have.

Motive: 1. It's important because it is affecting everyone who is living in Tacoma.

             2. EPA is fining factories around Tacoma for Clean Air Act Violations.

             3. Get this known to the public.

Thesis: People need to pay attention to Tacoma's air quality because it can affect the people living in Tacoma and even the state of Washington in negative ways.

Map: Begin by discussing about Tacoma. Then talk about the air quality and its effects on peoples health and house values. And finish by talking about the solution to fixing this problem and why it would work. 

Problem -    

What is it?: Air pollution in Tacoma using information from this and this

Why It's a problem?: Affects economy and health of individuals who have been living in Tacoma within the last decade using information from this, this, this, and this. 

Solution -     

What is it?: To notify the public about this problem.

Why?: To get people to notice this problem by discussing economic consequences with this 

Conclusion - 

 I am not the smartest individual to solve this kind of problem. But if this problem is discussed with other people, it has a greater chance to reach the ears of someone who can help with these problems.

Article: US Oil and Refining Co. in Tacoma, WA settles with federal and local air authorities for Clean Air Act Violations

Main Idea: Air emissions from factories in Tacoma have been unsafe.

Evidence: "The Tacoma Refinery, which can process over 39,000 barrels [of oil] per day, had a range of Clean Air Act violations between 1993 and 2006".

Craig Kenworthy, an executive director of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, states in the above article that " large operations like US Oil must comply with the standards that protect the health of the people in the region" (Kenworthy).

Response: The PSCAA set the standard for how much pollutants a factory in the Puget Sound can release into the air and maintain a safety of breathable air. And since the Tacoma Refinery has been going against their standards, it proves that the air pollution in Tacoma caries a health risk.

Now this is just one factory. But if you were to overlook Tacoma on a hill, and Tacoma IS on a hill, you could see smoke stacks and cranes by the harbor. Which means that there are multiple factories. And it's possible that they have contributed to Tacoma's air pollution.

Article: A Meta Analysis of the Effect of Environmental Contamination and Positive Amenities on residential Real Estate Values

Main Idea: Pollution decreases the value of houses.

Evidence: In the sixth paragraph, about the study conducted by Smith and Huang (1995), they found agencies would be more willing to pay for an estate for each unit reduction in air quality.

Response: People's homes in Tacoma are in a spot of air pollution, thus it is reducing the value of their house or their apartment or their condominium.

Although my first article talks about factories while my last article talks about estates being affected, the point remains that some help is needed for Tacoma's air.

Concerning My Researched Proposal...

I plan on working with a biological problem (such as a disease or disorder), nature and wildlife (Maybe pollution or a habitat), or a small problem within the community (I'm uncertain to what it should be though).
